Rita T. Powley of Lester, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the age of 88. She was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Elmer & Marie (nee McLaughlin) Wunder.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years Robert H. Powley; children Patricia Ruby, Robert A. Powley, Kathleen Barrett (Michael) and Richard Powley (Marti); 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; Sisters-in-law; Uncle; many nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sisters Anna Mae Laica and Irene Wunder; brother George Wunder and Son-in-Law, Wilmer “Buz” Ruby.
Rita enjoyed traveling, casinos, was a faithful cheerleader when attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and was a dedicated Penn State Nittany Lion fan. Many knew her as a Eucharistic Minister at St Margaret Mary Alacoque and St. Gabriel Roman Catholic Church, which she was very proud of. In addition she worked many years as minority inspector of elections and was referred to as “The Hot Dog Lady” for the annual VFW Memorial Day parades. She spent many years working in the Accounting department for Westinghouse. She was also a very proud alumni of the original Ridley Park High School and enjoyed attending class reunions. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends of whom she had a very special place in her heart for each and every one of them.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday, July 16, 2021 from 9:00 to 9:50 am at St. Gabriel Roman Catholic Church, Norwood, PA. Mass will begin at 10:00 am, followed by interment in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you do a simple act of kindness in Rita’s memory.
