Gilbert-Mee, Rebecca (Becky) ran into the arms of her Mother on January 3, 2021.
Becky lived in Glenolden for many years and was known throughout the community. When you walked into a store with Becky it was like you were with a celebrity, much like her beloved Marilyn Monroe. Everyone knew her and loved her. You remembered Becky because you couldn’t possibly forget her. She loved dressing up, never leaving the house without being done up from her eyelashes down to her heels, none less than 5” high, and every one a statement maker. If you had a dollar for every person who stopped her to say “I love your shoes/hair/earrings/outfit/style” you would be a richer person…but we are already richer for having known her. She treated everyone she met with the same kindness and respect.
Becky loved to dance and she loved the string bands. Apparently her first meeting with her future husband was when he, as a Philadelphia police officer, asked her to please step behind the barriers while she was jitter-bugging at the Mummers Parade. She loved Christmas and had the tree up, house decorated and cards mailed before most of us finished Thanksgiving dinner. She loved the beach and boardwalk rides, the more harrowing the better. Throw her down a hill or shoot her from a slingshot and she would get right back in line to do it again. She only drove a stick shift and she only drove one way. Fast! You can see that Becky loved a lot of things, and if you were lucky enough to be one of them, then you were lucky enough. She loved to sparkle, and the world will be a bit more lackluster with her passing.
Becky was a Lab Technician at DuPont for 41 years before retiring in 2007. She worked alongside a group of people that became her closest friends. They truly loved and cared for her and each other. She will be deeply missed by her DuPont family.
She was a passionate Democrat working multiple Presidential campaigns and was a dedicated supporter of President Barak Obama.
Loving Wife to the late Thomas A. Mee, Jr., Devoted Daughter to the late Ethel and John Gilbert, Beloved Sister to the late Jack (Bill Bender) and William Gilbert, Loving Gi Gi to Christopher Benjamin and Juliet Maher and a Friend to all. She is survived by her Stepdaughter Jennifer Maher (Matthew), Nieces, Nephew, Cousins, and Sisters and Brothers-in-law.
Becky is finally reunited with her “Mommy” and her Tommy…home at last.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Wednesday January 12th from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM at The Cavanagh Family Funeral Home, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA 19074
