Margaret “Peg” Mary Riley, 86 of Norwood passed away Monday, September 13, 2021, at the Green Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Malvern. She was born February 2, 1935 in Philadelphia to the late James J. & Margaret (Moore) Gallagher.
Peg was a proud graduate of West Catholic Girls’ High School and was a loving, sweet, caring, thoughtful woman who always wished to make people laugh and had a joke for every encounter. She idolized and bragged about her grandchildren whenever she had the opportunity, even to strangers, and was a get-down-on-the-floor-and-play kind of Grandmom.
Peg enjoyed Word-Seek puzzles, Brain Games, watching game shows, and dining at Applebee’s – where everybody knew her name! She loved volunteering at her children’s elementary school, St. Philomena in Lansdowne, and she served for many years as the Board Secretary of the West Catholic Girls’ Alumnae Association, which was one of her favorite passions. She was also a former member of the St. Barnabus and St. Clement Parishes in Philadelphia.
In addition to her parents, Peg was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Riley; late husband Philip Riley, Jr.; and her brothers, James and Joseph.
Survivors include her children, Margie Evans (Jack), Phil Riley (Clare) and Marian Whiteside (Tom); Grandchildren, Josh (Geneva), Ryan, Caitlin, Sarah, Alyssa, and Connor; great-granddaughter, Keira; brother-in-law, Bernie LeVasseur; also many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to Peg’s viewing Saturday, September 18th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Cavanagh Family Funeral Home, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood. Catholic Prayer Service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM. Interment Private in Calvary Cemetery, Conshohocken.
