John Woyurka, late of Aston, PA died on June 11, 2022, at the age of 92.
He was born on November 09, 1929, in Shamokin Pennsylvania, Northumberland County. He was the youngest of seven children born to the late Leon and Euphrasia “Flossie” (nee Marshalick) Woyurka.
He graduated from Shamokin High School. He entered the United States Army following graduation and served· during the Korean Conflict for 4 years and was discharged honorably with the rank of Sergeant.
He graduated from Bloomsburg State College in 1957 majoring in Education with the goal of becoming a high school history teacher.
Following graduation, he married Virginia Mudrick of Shamokin who preceded him in death in 2021.
Together they moved to Media, Pennsylvania and he began his teaching career at Penncrest High School where he remained for his entire career teaching History. He also coached track at Penncrest. He retired in 1991.
John and Virginia had two sons, John Brian, and Michael.
John loved teaching and instilled in his students a love and appreciation for history.
He received his master’s degree in Economics from Villanova University and continued his education at Drexel University. He also had certification as a Principal.
He is survived by his son Michael and three grandchildren, John, Nicholas and Lauren Woyurka as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son John Brian and brothers George and Michael Woyurka and sisters Jennie Boback, Anna Strick, Helen Shaloka and Victoria Woyurka.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Cavanagh-Patterson Funeral Home, Media, PA. Prayers will begin at 11:00 a.m., interment private at the request of the family.
