John (Jackie) W. Brown Passed away peacefully in Clermont, Fl on April 9, 2022 at the age of 84.
A TIME OF BIRTH
John Fernandez Wesley Brown, Jr (Jackie) was born on July 27, 1937 in Chester, Pa to the late Doris James Tyne Brown and John F. W. Brown, Sr. He was the older of 2 children. His sister, Gloria Rosita (Brown) Dais currently resides in Lansdowne, Pa.
A TIME TO LEARN
Mr. Brown graduated from Chester High School, Chester, Pa in 1955. He graduated from Keystone Business College in Swarthmore, Pa in 1957. He returned to college and earned a BS degree in Business Administration/Accounting and a post baccalaureate degree in Education, from Saint Joseph’s College. John later obtained a Master’s degree in Education Administration & Elementary Education from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.
A TIME TO LOVE
In 1959 he met his future wife (Audrey) at Keystone and they married. They were later blessed with three sons David Allen, Stephen Eugene and Matthew. (Predeceased).
A TIME TO SERVE
John enlisted in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard (PA ANG) in 1954, with his parents’ permission, while still in high school. During the cold war he was given a permanent position as an Air Technician and served until he retired, with an honorable discharge, in 1962. In 1977, he reenlisted in the 2072nd US Army Reserves school and served as a lead instructor. John taught such courses as army intelligence and medical supply. In this capacity he traveled throughout the USA and abroad, namely; Puerto Rico. John retired again with an honorable discharge from the Army Individual Mobilization Augmentation (IMA) and Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) as a Master Sergeant (MSG) in 1990. Among his many accommodations, and medals, was the Meritorious Service medal and personal letter of appreciation from then U.S. president George H. Bush for his accomplishments.
A TIME TO LABOR
In 1962 Mr. Brown accepted a position with the Boeing Vertol Division in Ridley Park, Pa. He was later tested and selected to participate in Boeing’s “Management Development Program” which was quite a distinction. He was subsequently promoted to a Buyer/Administrator as a result of his cost savings initiatives for the company. He later worked in similar Buyer/Admin roles while on staff at the Franklin Mint and Philco-Ford. He was also a Real Estate agent licensed in Pennsylvania with Century 21 and sold properties in Philadelphia and Delaware.
After working as a buyer, John finally decided to pursue his one true passion — teaching. He taught Accounting and Business Law at Chester High School until 1986. John was also a union representative before being promoted and returning to Chester High School as a Vice-Principal representing the Chester Upland School District (CUSD) before the State in its “Affirmative Action Main Streaming Program.” Afterwards he served as Vice-Principal of Showalter Middle School and Christopher Columbus Elementary School before returning to Showalter Middle School in 1991 as their Principal. Mr. Brown was popular among his students and had a way of presenting his subject matter interestingly thereby elevating student achievement levels and motivating self-confidence. He would at times even sing to his class. He was also known for his annual class trips.
A TIME TO GIVE
In 1993, Mr. and Mrs. Brown moved to Orlando, Florida and joined St. Margaret Mary Church where they served for many years as Eucharistic Ministers. John then joined the Monsignor Bonner Council #2112 of the Knights of Columbus later becoming their Chancellor.
Mr. Brown also held numerous positions within AARP. At one time or another, Mr. Brown held the Vice President, acting President and membership chairman positions of AARP-Chapter 18.
Both Audrey and John were avid fisherman and also were travelers specifically, enjoying Europe and Central/Southern Caribbean Islands.
A TIME TO MOURN
Survivors include his spouse, Audrey L. Brown, Sister Gloria Dais, sons David Allen (Gail), Stephen Eugene (Maria), Matthew (predeceased).
He is also survived by grandchildren, Melanie (Jesse), Colin (Kara), Zachary, Jada and great-grand daughter Chloe, and great grandson Carter and numerous Nieces, Nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to attend John’s Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on Wednesday May 4, 2022 at Nativity BVM Catholic Church 30 E. Franklin Street, Media, PA.
