Irene C. Walsh, 82, of Reading (formerly of Philadelphia and Claymont, DE) passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 23, 1939 to the late Wilson & Marie (Comly) Caulder. Irene was raised in Philadelphia and lived in a foster home at the young age of 10, where she developed a lifelong friendship with four other girls that lasted until their deaths. Early in her adulthood Irene entered the novitiate with the hope of becoming a nun. Although she loved the Church, Irene realized that joining a religious order was not her path. Shortly after leaving the convent, she met and married the love of her life, Patrick Walsh.
Irene was an avid reader and writer who enjoyed nonfiction, autobiographies, and attending writer’s seminars held in Wildwood, NJ. She was a fan of Irish inspired music, especially the group Wolftones. Irene also loved to vacation with her children and grandchildren, and especially enjoyed a recent family cruise to the Bahamas. Another favorite hobby of Irene’s was attending plays and theatre productions such as “The Calendar Girls”, which was her favorite. Irene will always be remembered for her vitality. You could always count on something inappropriate and hilarious coming out of her mouth. She was a rare gem and will surely be missed!
In addition to her parents and husband of 29 years, Irene was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Frank Caulder, and her precious grandson, Stephen Lees.
Survivors include her children: Patrick (Ivy) Walsh, Thomas Walsh, Patricia (Bryce) Walsh, Mary (Rob) Kruzel, Michael Walsh and Christina (Len) Walsh; Grandchildren: Michael Bangel, Carissa Bryck, Jessica Bangel, Devin Walsh, Robert Kruzel, Brenna Walsh, Keely Walsh, Grace Lees and Erin Walsh; Great grandchildren: Addison, Gavin, Joanna, John Paul and Ripley; Nieces Heather (Ken) Bishop and Debbie (Mike) Barnett; and numerous loving cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Family and friends are invited to Irene’s visitation Tuesday September 28th from 9 to 10 Am at the Cavanagh Family Funeral Home 301 Chester Pike Norwood, PA 19074. A Prayer Service will immediately follow at 10 AM. Interment in Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
