Dorothy E. Ellis, 83 (nee Eichinger)
Dot “Dottie” Ellis of Ridley Park passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 29th, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Philadelphia to Anna and John, she spent her childhood growing up in the Meadows, attending Joseph Catherine Elementary School, Tilden Junior High School and John Bartram High School, graduating in 1956. She married the love of her life, Don, in 1958, this year celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary. Known for her bright smile, and kindheartedness, Dot made anyone she met feel instantly part of her family. She was a stay-at-home mom while raising her children, eventually going to work first for the Ridley School District, and then pursuing her passion for cleaning, she worked as a custodian in the administrative offices for the Springfield School District, retiring after 10 years of service. She led a simple life, with faith, family and friends as her focus. Supporting every event and sport her children pursued, spending family summer vacations at the jersey shore, being the best wife, mom, and mommom ever, and caring for her dachshunds were her passions. She loved to cook, and those who know Dot well, know how much she enjoyed a good long island iced tea. Dot was one of the kindest souls a person could ever have the privilege of meeting.
Dot was predeceased by her beloved son, Donnie, her parents, sister Ruth, brother Jack and her four dachshunds – Winnie, Max, Bridget, and Woody.
In addition to her beloved husband Don, survivors include her daughter Patty (Steve), son Mark (Tina), grandchildren Kristen (Tom), Mark (Monica), Lindsay, and Matt; and her great-granddaughter, Aiofe.
A life-long Christian, Dot was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, and in celebration of Dot’s life and giving spirit, please consider a memorial donation in Dot’s name to, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 160 Fairview Rd., Woodlyn, PA 19094.
Dot’s service and burial are private.
