Barbara “Jeannie” Moorehead (nee Hoeke)
July 3, 1952-April 21, 2021
Barbara Jean “Jeannie” Moorehead, 68, of Holmes PA, loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed on April 21, 2021. Born and raised in the Grays Ferry section of South Philadelphia, Jeannie was daughter to the late James and Helen Hoeke and a graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School in 1970.
Jeannie was mother of the late baby Andrew Moorehead and survived by her pride and joy, daughter Meghan Moorehead. Jeannie was a beloved sister to James (Carol) Hoeke, Catherine (Francis) McClafferty and Elaine Hoeke, an amazing aunt to Jennifer (Jim), Jim (Dana), Sharon, Fran, Allison (Jeremy), Brian (Amy) and Michael; as well as ten great nieces and nephews Emma, Nicholas, Kieran, Jake, Briella, Abigail, Rachel, Caden, MacKenzie and Maeve. Jeannie is also survived by many dear cousins and lifelong friends, including her buddies, Danny and Joey and Goddaughter, Jaimee.
Jeannie was employed at Principal Financial Group before devoting her life to her most important role, which was caring for her daughter Meghan for the past 30 years. She was a true champion for Meghan, making sure her needs were met above all else.
Growing up, Jeannie loved trips to Wildwood and the Poconos with friends, and later taking large family trips and spoiling the kids whenever possible. She was always ready for a day of shopping with Elaine and Meghan, trips to the casino, restaurants, plays, concerts and rooting for Philly sports teams. She especially enjoyed hosting family and friends for meals and holidays. Jeannie kept an open and welcoming family home. It is rare to visit at any time of the day and not soon be joined by more friends and cousins at the kitchen table. She will be so greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited to her visitation on Monday, April 26th at 10AM at St. Gabriel’s Church, 2917 Dickinson St. Phila, PA 19146. Mass will follow at 11AM. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Please attend as you feel comfortable during this time of COVID.
